-French army physician working with Pasteur-Used scientific method to show the connection between plague, Yersinia pestis, fleas and rodents
-Used infected rat in cage below a healthy rat in cage and was able to show that the fleas that jumped from infected rat jumped to healthy rat and infected in thus showing transmission
