26 avr. 1954 - The Geneva Accords
Description:
The day after the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, a meeting was held in Geneva to discuss Vietnam and how it should be handled. It was agreed that Vietnam would be split at the 17th parallel and Ho Chi Minh would control the North and Diem would control the south. After three years, a vote would be held to decide which half would take over the other.
This split would ultimately lead to the North supporting a communist rebel faction in the south after, with the support of the US, the south cancels the election.
