Description:
During the Peloponnesian war in 430 BC, three different outbreaks caused 1/3 of the population to die and one of the diseases was Typhus
Symptoms:
-high fever for two weeks
-intense headache
-chills
-aches and pains
-rash all over body except hands, soles of feet and face
-head feels "foggy"
Treatment:
-People were forced to bathe in gasoline and vinegar to kill the lice
-Can now be treated with early antibiotics
History:
-1916 there is an outbreak in Mexico which changed our interactions with the southern boarder
-1916 El Paso jail fire
-1917 bath riots over treatment at boarder
