4 sept. 1957 - Little Rock Nine

Description:

Nine black students enrolled at the all-white Central High school in Little Rock Arkansas and they met large resistance as Governor Orval Faubus ordered the national guard to block them. The names were: Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Thelma Mothershed, Melba Patillo, Gloria Ray, Terrence Roberts, Jefferson Thomas and Carlotta Walls. They were recruited by Daisey Bates, a member of the NAACP. Eisenhower sent federal troops to escort them into the school. The cause or reason for this was to test the ruling of Brown v. Board of Education. The effect was showing the power of the federal government and to not mess with it. It demonstrated that the government was not something to play around with.
