Acting as the ruling political party in China today, with nearly 90 million members, the Chinese Communist Party was founded in 1921 following the Russian Revolution. Tensions arose between the established KMT Nationalist party and the CCP, eventually leading to a civil war erupting between the two. The communist party was victorious, and seized control of parliament in 1949. The CCP is famous for being the world’s largest political party.
