Description:
Charlemagne the Great was the ruler of his Frankish state, the Carolingian Empire. He became king after his father’s and brother’s death. He united the most of Western Europe and was crowned Emperor by Pope Leo III. His region controlled the Roman Catholic Church, which is the largest of the Christian denominations presently. He is known mostly, however, for his unification of Western Europe (the largest unification since the Roman Empire). (3.2)
