WWII began on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. This led Britain and France to declare war on Hitler's Nazi army for retaliation. The United States did not enter the war until after the Japanese bombed the American fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941.
