The Structure of Working Memory from 4 - 15 Years
- Assessed 700 children using a range of WM measures (verbal & visuospatial simple spans & complex span)
- They found an increase in WM capacity with age which approaches adult levels of performance by the age of 15
- The scores on these tasks increased regularly and slowly over time (except for pattern span [assessed by the Visual Patterns Test] which plateaus at age 11)
- Weak & nonsignificant correlations found between visuospatial and verbal WM support the components of the Baddeley model & their separation
