6 août 1965 - Voting Rights Act of 1965
Description:
The act was signed by LBJ and banned the use of literacy tests for voting, provided federal oversight of voter registration, and authorized the attorney general to investigate poll taxes in state and local elections. It was signed in DC. A cause of this was because of the violence against the black protesters in their Selma to Montgomery march. The effect was big. There was much larger voter turn out even though enforcement was poor. For example, in Mississippi, black voting increased from 6-59 from 1964 -1969.
