21 févr. 1972 - Nixon's visit to China

Description:

Both a milestone in political history and in journalism -- although often suspicious of any U.S. journalists, the Chinese government allowed almost 100 reporters to televise events such as Nixon's arrival in Beijing and visits to the Great Wall and Forbidden City live. Nixon and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger, along with Kissinger's Special Assistant Winston Lord, met with Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai and spoke about Taiwan's political status. The aftermath of the trip included a metaphorical door opening for Americans to step into Chinese government and culture, in addition to bolstering the U.S. public's confidence in world peace.
