After the colonies declared independence, they needed a form of government. Because of the way that Great Britain treated the colonies, they wanted a federal government that was not strong. They called the documents that made up this government the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation worked during the Revolutionary War, but after the war there were problems.
