19 août 600 - Kingdom of Ghana (~600 C.E.-1300 C.E.)
Description:
The Kingdom of Ghana was located in Western Africa and was the biggest state of Africa of the time. They were huge on trade and primarily traded gold and salt with the northern tribes. When Islam came to the kingdom, it was very successful. At first, people were hesitant, but as the Kings began to convert, the conversion rate skyrocketed. Islam was a great addition to the Kingdom, as the trade with Muslim merchants was beneficial to the people. Not only did it bring down prices on certain goods, but it also gave luxury items to those who could afford them. The kingdom fell in the early thirteenth century to the northern Saharan tribes.
