Description:
The battle became important because of Roosevelt's speech "Taking over the hill." Roosevelt was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy and asked for permission to have his own fighters made up of volunteers. This group was made up of mostly cowboys, Indians, other "wild west" type of people and athletes along with other sportsmen from the East. They rose to fame with the wins of their battles, including winning the Battle of San Juan hill.
