Description:

The Council of Chalcedon declared Monophysitism (which asserted Jesus as divine but not Human) as heresy and that Jesus was divine and human; the Council acknowledged that salvation through Jesus Christ rested upon Christ’s role as mediator between God and man and upheld the orthodox position of the Council of Ephesus. Although they experienced persecution, followers of Monophysitism continued to exist and lived mainly in Egypt and Syria (where followers became known as the Jacobite Church).
