20 août 2011 - First Day of High School!
Description:
I felt that this was important to include because it is important to note what I am wearing. I have a pretty "feminine" shirt on and rather interestingly, makeup. I must say that these were not choices I wished to make, but they were instead from society. I always dressed with a "too masculine" style. My mom even convinced me to cut and style my hair, and get highlights. This was not too great for my self-esteem. Since I was already confused about my sexuality, I really did not need to be focusing on if my eyeshadow was the right color.
I am 14 in this photo. "Nearly half of young girls start wearing make-up between the ages of 10 and 15" (Closer Staff, 2013). The authors of this article explain that our culture and society make young girls think that they need to wear makeup, especially since they see celebrities in magazines and on social media wearing tons. This can start as young as 10. I definitely felt the pressure to blend in with other people by wearing makeup. Plus, if I had some unruly acne, I could make that go away... even though acne is totally normal. I felt that, as a girl, I needed to be "beautiful", whatever that means.
