Hernan Cortés and his army peacefully greeted the Aztec emperor, Moctezuma the 2nd. They tricked him and held him as a prisoner. Once Cortés had defeated the other people of the empire, he killed Moctezuma. Shortly after he took over all of the Aztec Empire.
