(I decided this could fit under the Social category because it was supposed to fix racial issues.)Description: Amendment to Constitution that freed all slaves. After the Civil War, former confederate states were required to ratify this amendment before they could reenter the Union.
Cause: Many Americans, mostly Northerners, believed that slavery should seize to exist, and so the 13th was put through Congress.
Historical Impact: The amendment gave slaves freedom in America, however this did not end racial injustice. Southerners and other pro-slavery parties found ways around this law, including black codes.
