Because of Caesar’s military victory in the Gaul, his wealth grew and surpassed Pompey’s, so Pompey conspired with his Senate allies to slowly undermine Caesar. In 49 BC, Caesar crossed the river Rubicon, which is on the border of Italy and Cisalpine Gaul.
