1 janv. 509 av. J.-C. - 1. The End of Rome's Monarchy, the Dawn of the New Republic
Description:
The twin sons of Mars, the god of war, were left to die in a basket on the Tiber river by the king of Alba Longa. The twins were rescued by a she-wolf, who raised them. The twins were named Romulus and Remus. Later, the twin grew up and defeated the king that left them for dead and founded their own city. Romulus killed his brother and became the first king of Rome, which is named after him. This began the end of Rome's monarchy. The next kings did not come from hereditary succession. Rome’s monarchy ended in 509 BC with the overthrow of Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the seventh king of Rome. Most historians believe that he was a cruel tyrant. The uprising was said to have begun because of the rape of a noblewoman named Lucretia, by the king's son. This is what caused Rome to become a republic.
