4 mars 1807 - Transatlantic slave trade abolished
Description:
Congress passed a law banning the importation of slaves into the country, ending the transatlantic slave trade. It came into effect January 1, 1808, the earliest date permitted by the Constitution. However, in its place, the domestic slave trade began to flourish, meaning slavery in the US was far from over.
