Ancient Chinese alchemists were trying to find a potion for immortality and they ended up making gunpowder and first used it for fireworks. The Chinese finally realized that if you explode gunpowder near people they might die so they started using it in war as a kind of explosive. Gunpowder consists of potassium nitrate, common charcoal, and sulfur. At first, gunpowder was just used as fireworks, and it took a while for the Chinese to realize that gunpowder could be used in war. The Cannon was the first big weapon that was developed after the creation of gunpowder The cannon was a more effective weapon and could eliminate ramps, catapults, and walls easily
Another advantage of cannons is that they can be shot from far away and have the same damage. Cannons had no limited range they could reach long distances. Gunpowder Was also used for traps inside mines. You could now mine a whole lot faster by blowing holes in the rock than chipping it with an ax. The second great invention with gunpowder were guns
The gun could pierce a knight’s armor, which impacted how people fought. Gunpowder changed the way wars were fought.
