20 sept. 2018 - Weekly Meetings with Ms. Starfish
begin. Told I need to be on a path
to success.
Description:
On Thursday I met with my boss to inform her about the meeting in the visitor’s center with contractor planning to perform remodel work. I informed her of what was discussed in the meeting. I noted that the contractor proposed to do work on 9/30/18, but realistically operations will need more time to write a clearance. She then said that I needed to tell her those things immediately with no explanation of why. This was simply a proposed date for these set of contractors to perform work and had not been set in stone. She then brought in the inspector for our engineering group and he informed her that this was simply a proposed date and nothing had been set in stone yet. Before the inspector informed her she seemed to want to have me jump from the job I was already working on to complete the clearance request instead of working on installing VFDs for our domestic water pumps. It seems that on a weekly and sometimes daily basis my tasks are changing. My concern is that I will be told that my work is not satisfactory when I am simply jumping to whatever task they have asked me to do. That appears to be what happened toward the end of my meeting with my boss. She looked at the comments that I made for the visitor center remodel and said that she was not happy with my work. I stated to her that I needed clarification and that it was frustrating to get requests to review large documents and sets of drawings in a short time frame. I also told her this seems to be a pattern where I get no clear direction of what she wanted and then she can come and say that she is unhappy with my work. She did tell me that she should have reviewed my work before it was sent out. She stated that she wanted me to be an expert on my “systems.” I said that is very vague and I need clarification on what specifically I will need to know. She said that she wants to set me up for success, which I believe is a lie and that we will need to have weekly meetings so that she can help me understand my system. This seems very odd to me because she does not understand these systems so I am unsure how I will be evaluated. From this point on I will be dealing with my boss through email in regards to assignments. I am not even sure how she can be unhappy with my work for the visitor center when she did not even look through the documentation. I reiterated to my boss that the comments I made on the drawings were due to them being unclear. The drawings were in black and white and I explained that normally in my experience when you work on a set of drawings there are things colored in red to indicate what is being installed and things colored in green to show what is being removed. She said that the comments I made were attacking the contractor instead of being collaborative. I am starting to feel that both of my managers Engineering Chief and Electrical Supervisor are trying to set me up for failure. This meeting is very similar to my meetings with Britt where it seemed as if he would make vague comments such as you don’t understand the system without elaborating. It is very clear to me at this point that I am being discriminated against. For what reason I do not know. I will talk with my union rep on how to proceed. Below are the comments I created along with an engineer at the engineering service office.

Receptacles installed outside, on the building exterior or roof, in kitchens or within six feet
horizontally from a sink or drinking fountain unless located below a counter or otherwise
protected, shall be GFCI type. According to article NEC 2017 210.12 I believe any 120 volt 15
-20 A receptacle in a kitchen must be protected with an ARC Fault Circuit Interrupter. I am not
sure if Nevada has adopted the 2017 NEC, but I believe that we should comply with the most recent NEC standard.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 CONDUCTOR MATERIAL APPLICATIONS
A. Feeders: Copper for feeders smaller than 100 amps; copper than 100 amps. Solid for No.
10 AWG and smaller; stranded for No. 8 AWG and larger. I believe 8 AWG is needed for
any conductor carrying 100 A or less according to table 310.15 B 20 of NEC 2017.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 APPLICATIONS
A. Conductors: Install solid conductor for No. 8 AWG and smaller, and stranded conductors for
No. 6 AWG and larger, unless otherwise indicated. This should depend on the type of loads
being wired and the amperage that the conductor will be carrying. 8 AWG should be fine for
anything below 100 A.
