Description:

Description: The Missouri Compromise was a bill where Missouri would be passed in the union as a slave state so long as Maine would be able to pass the union as a free state. The Missouri Compromise was the first in a long series of political actions meant to preserve the balance between slave and non-slave states.
Causes: The North and South each wanted their own respective ideology on slavery to win out, so to preserve the balance of the union, Missouri and Maine entered the union together as to prevent major shifts in power.
Impacts: The Missouri Compromise was the one of the first pieces of legislation dealing with the freedom to own slaves, heightening the tension that already existed between the North and South.
