Description:

- After the Sui Dynasty reunited China through contest, Li Yuan, the founder of the Tang Dynasty, defeated General Yang Jian, Sui’s emperor. He ruled as Gaozong, high Tang ancestor, until 626 C.E. In 626 C.E., Taizong, his son, ascended to the throne. He expanded the Tang Dynasty by seizing a portion of Mongolia from the Turks and making joint expeditions along the silk road.
- Tang Dynasty developed a successful form of government and stimulated cultural and artistic flourish. The form of government followed Confucianism principles. Art such as poetry, music, dances, were highly supported. The Tang Dynasty was responsible for the preservation of 48,900 poems by 2,000 Tang poets of the era. Most impressive inventions and advancements in Chinese history such as gunpowder, air conditioning, gas stoves, woodblock printing, advancements in medicine, science, technology, architecture, and literature; come from the Tang Dynasty. Technological advances examples include the creation of clocks, agricultural machines to speed up the processes of planting, irrigating, and harvesting crops.
- After Xuanzong’s death, the dynasty steadily declined and fell apart. Rulers after him did not accomplish their responsibilities to the people and focused on their own pleasures. Incompetent rulers were the main cause of its decline. After the An Lushan Rebellion, the Tang Dynasty was defeated.
