7 mai 1870 - Alaskan Lease

Description:

Following the original Russia offer to sell Alaska, the British refused in hopes of driving up the price. The Russians instead would attempt to sell the territory to the United States in 1867, but the active civil war put a halt to any ambitions to the useless territory.

In 1869, Russian came to the British with a new offer; Russia would lease the region of Russian America [minus the Aleutian Islands] to the British. This would place the territory under British economic and political administration, but Russian sovereignty. Additionally the border was set back the the 145th Parrallel West.
