1 janv. 1877 - Beggining of enforcement of Jim Crow laws

Description:

State and local laws that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. Enacted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by conservative white Democratic-dominated state legislatures after the Reconstruction period, the laws were enforced until 1965. In practice, Jim Crow laws mandated racial segregation in all public facilities.

Causes: People in the Confederate states still thought blacks were inferior, and wished to segregate them, even if they were in fact free and able to vote and run for political offices. Plus Reconstruction more rebuilding driven, tensions not lessened as much.
