Description:
Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States, beating Democrat Stephen A. Douglas, John C. Breckinridge, and John Bell. He was the first president from the Republican Party. Lincoln was highly opposed to the idea of slavery and swore to illegalize it.
Causes - The people entrusted and related to Lincoln as he preached good moral values and was from a humble background.
Impact - With Lincoln elected, North Carolina and several other states decided to secede and form the Confederacy. This started the Civil War and questioned Slavery above all else. Lincoln lead America through the Civil War and the Northern Union won the war.
