Fort Sumter in South Carolina was under attack on April 12, 1861. The went on for about 34 hours, until the garrison surrender on April 14. This was huge impact and contribution to the Civil War. Firstly, it was the first major battle that started the Civil War. Lastly, Abraham Lincoln wanted troops to join the Northern army, but most states decided against it. Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee decided it would be best to cut their ties with the federal government. There was a confederate victory.
