The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress meeting at Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, which announced that the thirteen American colonies (then at war with Great Britain) regarded themselves as 13 newly independent sovereign states, and no longer controlled or are a part of the British Empire.
Impact - The declaration gave birth to the United States of America. It symbolizes freedom and American democracy. Rallied huge support from colonists at home or abroad.
