Description:

- Day 297
- They reach the crash site and discover that the escapees may have stayed there overnight. There are hundreds of different types of footprints in all sorts of directions, both old and new. They speculate that the escapees met up with someone here and went off.
- They head west and start to feel on edge. They cross another quarter mile of wood hollow and start to smell biters.
- Lilly orders everybody to get down when she spots, fifty yards away, a huge convention of the dead shambling around. Lilly gives David her binoculars and he spots a lone biter off to the east of the herd. The biter was once the former gym teacher, Caesar Ramon Martinez. They pass around the binoculars and look on in despair. Nobody knew him too well but they're all stuck seeing him like this. Austin points out some tire tracks in the dirt that look as if they've come to a sudden stop. They think that maybe he was ran over by them whilst trying to get back.
- Austin wants to go back now they've found out what's happened. The others agree but Gabe stops them and says they need proof. He grabs his knife and goes for Martinez, the others have to cover him now he's not turning back. Gabe ducks behind a tree and throws a small stone to distract the biter. When its not looking, Gabe pounces on what was once Martinez and cuts his head off with one powerful swing of the knife. The herd notices them and Austin and David start to fire at the approaching swarm.
- Gabe stuffs the reanimated head into a satchel and joins the shooting. More biters emerge out the woods on their right and they soon run out of ammo. Lilly doesn't event have to tell them all to run.
- They outrun the biters and get back to the truck. Gus asks about Martinez and Gabe dumps the bag down. He avoids the question and tells him to take them back home. Lilly sits in the back, appalled that Gabe decided to keep Martinez's reanimated head, thinking he was saner than this. She wonders what the Governor is going to do with it but decides to let it go.
