8 mai 1660 - English Restoration
Description:
With Cromwell’s military dictatorship overthrown, the crown passed into the hands of Charles II, the eldest son of Charles I. However, both Charles II and James II (his successor), despite their determination to work with Parliament, had pro-Catholic sentiments, between Charles’s secret agreement with Louis XIV and James’s violation of the 1673 Test Act. This would eventually go on to the overthrow of James, and the crowning of William and Mary of Orange.
