25 août 1932 - Tuskegee study

Description:

Tuskegee syphilis study started by Clark and Vondelehr to monitor African Americans who had syphilis and gather data on their symptoms while they stayed untreated and denied penicillin. This study went on for 40 years. This study raised ethical concerns because the men were lied to about receiving treatment and they didn’t give informed consent. This study also showed racism in medicine. President Clinton formally apologized in 1997 on behalf of the nation.
