1 janv. 1380 - Papal Authority/Petrine Supremacy (1380)

Description:

This is the perhaps the single most important idea that built the Catholic church into what it was during the early modern ages and one of the ideas most objections were taken to by the Protestants. Petrine Supremacy gave the Pope all his authority, whether it be in excommunication, interpreting scriptures, or being the Holy See. It is derived from Matthew 16:18-19 where Jesus gives Peter the keys of the kingdom and makes him the head of the church (according to Catholic interpretation). (Palmer 24-25)
