Description:
Cromwell was a powerful Puritan leader. Cromwell and the Puritans took King Charles I to trial for treason. Charles was found guilty and was sentenced to death. Charles was the first reigning monarch to face public trial and execution. Before Charles, the execution was done in secret or the King was overthrown or killed in battle. After Charles was killed, Cromwell held power. Cromwell established a republican form of government and made many changes to the government during his rule.
