Alfred Russel Wallace independently creates his 'theory of evolution,' after consultation with Darwin, their papers were co-published to the Linnean Society. Entitles "On the Tendency of Species to Form Varieties; and on the Perpetuation of Varieties and Species by Natural Means of Selection". His work in the Malay Archipelago was crucial to both men's similar theories of evolution.
