1 oct. 1822 - Denmark Vesey's failed rebellion
Description:
Denmark Vesey and other Black religious leaders urged enslaved Africans to rebel against their oppressors; however, they were betrayed and their rebellion was crushed. The Whites later burned the African Church. The event demonstrates the importance of religion as a unifying factor to slaves and the rising tensions between Whites and African Americans.
