Description:

Jefferson's presidency brought a new Republican perspective to the government, in the executive branch and the legislative branch. Jefferson wanted to reduce the national debt, so he lowered excise taxes and halved the size of the navy. Republicans were happy to have lower taxes; Federalists feared for the economy.
