18 mai 1896 - Plessy v Furguson
Description:
Plessy was brought to court for sitting in the ‘whites only’ car in a train. His lawyer argued that Plessy was protected by the 13th and 14th amendment which promised equality under the law. The Supreme Court ruled that whilst equality was guaranteed separation was still legal. This set the precedent for segregation in the States, particularly in the South.
