2 déc. 1823 - Monroe Doctrine

Description:

This doctrine stated that America would not interfere in wars between European nations or interfere with existing colonies. In return, it was agreed that the Western Hemisphere would be closed from future colonization and any attempt to do so would be considered a hostile attack on America. This doctrine was widely approved by Americans since it removed the threat of encroaching European colonies. It contributed to the national identity because it united Americans and increased their sense of nationalistic pride. They were essentially given the role of regulating all of North and South America by themselves, which was exactly the power and independence that they wanted.
