Description:

Previously, tariffs had been put in place in order to raise revenue for the government, but the purposes are different for this act. The tariffs were created to decrease competition from foreign nations and promote American manufacturing. As a result, domestic businesses were able to grow into huge industries. This made America less reliant on other countries, which increased nationalism and gave America the identity of being an economic powerhouse.
