Description:

On November 6, 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States. Because of Lincoln's Republican Party and beliefs on slavery, southern states that had been threatening secession, seceded. This led to the beginning of the Civil War and the eventuallt emancipation of slaves by Lincoln.
