The Wounded Knee Massacre was a one sided battle between the Lakota and United States. After successfully surrounding and disarming a Lakota encampment near Wounded Knee Creek, the US 7th Cavalry Regiment had an altercation with a deaf tribesman named Black Coyote which lead to shots being fired on unarmed peoples of the Lakota tribe. 150-300 men, women, and children of the Lakota had been killed and 51 were wounded; some estimates placed the number of dead at 300.
