Astronomer Brian Schmidt worked with Robert Kirshner — a well-known astronomer working at Harvard — where they identified and measured massive stars about 20 times the mass of the sun. They not only measured the distance of the objects but they also identified how fast they move away from earth and the expansion of our universe. They made the discovery that the universe is expanding as a whole.
