1 janv. 1854 - Kansas-Nebraska Act
Description:
Stephen A. Douglass wanted to admit Nebraska as a free state, but southern politicians opposed this, wanting to expand slavery. As a result of opposition, Douglass suggested a bill that would repeal the Missouri Compromise and admit Kansas in as a slave state. This Kansas-Nebraska Act barely squeaked by, and angered southerners who knew that the know slave state of Kansas did not have ideal plantation agricultural land and would likely become a free state.
