Events- John Brown’s Raid was when an abolitionist, John Brown, gathered freed slaves and white abolitinsts and raided Harpers Ferry. Harpers Ferry was a government Arsenal and John Brown wanted to get the weapons and give them to southern slaves. However, he was surrounded by soldiers under the command of Robert E. Lee.
Effects- This Raid played a large part in the start of the Civil War. John Brown was executed and became a martyr for the abolitionist cause. This riled up northerners and gave the south a reason to prepare for more attacks and build up their military.
