1 déc. 1807 - Slave Trade Act (1807)

Description:

After a long campaign for abolition led by William Wilberforce, Parliament prohibited the practice by passing the Slave Trade Act

the slave trade became a major economic mainstay for such cities as Bristol, Liverpool and Glasgow.
The Isle of Man was involved on the transatlantic African slave trade.

the Slave Trade was abolished in the context of war with Napoleonic France and of a blockade of British ports

Many members of the parliament realised that the economy didn’t depend of the Slave Trade. Trade abolished (not slavery) = illegal to sell or buy but legal to own them.
