Black Sunday happened after the demand for retaliation by the Irgun had risen. It all rose to a max when rabbi Eliezer Gerstein was killed on the 3rd of September. An attack against Jews happened again on the 9th of November. The Irgun weren't going to take this; in an act of retaliation, they killed 13 Arabs. From the 29th of October to the 11th of November, 21 attacks were made by the Arabs against British police and Jews. 5 instances involved bombs, with 11 murders (majority being Jewish). It was at this point that the Irgun leader commenced a programme of active defence. This consisted of attacks made against Arabs via bombing of Arab coffee houses. The first attack happened on the 11th of November and the second occurred on the 14th of November.
