22 sept. 1893 - First American Gasoline-Powered Automobile Is Introduced to the Public
Description:
The day was September 20th, 1893. Two brothers, Charles and Frank Duryea, had recently finished constructing the first American automobile to be powered by gasoline. Now they were presenting it to an astonished audience on Taylor Street in Springfield, Massachusetts. It wasn't the first ever gasoline powered car, (the first one having been invented by Karl Benz in Germany) though it was the first to be introduced in America. With the help of Henry Ford's use of the assembly line and cheap car prices, the automobile would go to become a relatively common possession by the early 1900's.
