Machiavelli, Italian Humanist, writes a book putting forth ideas about how a ruler should rule, and that it is better to be feared than loved, if you can't do both. This event fits the theme of National and European Identity because this event is about how Europe recooperates and reidentifies itself after the destruction of the Dark Ages. Part of this movement was new ideas of government.
