3 juill. 1870 - R.B. Bennett

Description:

The date is his birthday- Bennett was the prime minister following Mackenzie King but unlike King, he was a Conservative. Due to the Great Depression, Bennett was a leader who promised a lot of action in order to combat the effects. By trying to replicate FDR's "New Deal", his government intervened in many aspects of the country as his plan included things like PROGRESSIVE TAXATION for income opposed to a FLAT TAX and a maximum number of working hours. Ultimately, Bennett was viewed as a failure and was replaced by Mackenzie King. With the idea that the power kept shifting between Liberals and Conservatives, it it easy to say that during this time the MODERATE perspective was ignored and not represented.
